About FONS

Friends of Nettlebed School (FONS) would like to thank you for your interest in the inaugural Nettlebed Stinger 10km Multi-terrain Race.

Established in 2002, FONS (registered charity no. 1091177) is the parent body responsible for raising funds to help support learning and development at Nettlebed Community school. Our aim is “to work together to promote a strong sense of school community while simultaneously raising funds which will be used to enhance every child’s experience at Nettlebed School”.

Although all parents at the school are part of FONS, it is run by a small, committed group of parent volunteers who always welcome the support and involvement of others to deliver our goals. We work hard to bring together the school, families, staff and local community to promote a real sense of school community, fun and achievement.

As a group of running mums we were keen to establish a 10km run as it will hopefully not only bring funds to the school but will also promote and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle which is so important in today’s often sedentary life. It may even inspire some of our children (who will be helping out on the course) to become avid runners too! We hope that in future years we will be able to expand this event to include shorter distances, including a kid’s race.

In Spring 2020, just before the COVID-19 took hold, we decided to give our ageing playground a complete overhaul! By taking part in this race you are helping to fund this essential equipment.

We thank you for choosing to support our race and our school.

A challenging 10km trail run set in the beautiful Chiltern Hills surrounding the village of Nettlebed.  This race will challenge you with some ‘stinger’ hills but will reward you with stunning views as you run through woodland and open fields.
